Scheduled Gratitude
When the calendar informs you it is time to be thankful for:
- Your family and friends
- The harvest or fruits of your labor
Dogma Gratitude
When an institution or community expects you to be thankful for:
- The others in your community
- The value you receive by being a member of the institution
Transformative Gratitude
When, as a daily expression of timeless principles, you are thankful for:
- Those who contradict your values or are outside your community
- The circumstances that are currently obstacles…yet will eventually be gateways to greater health
The first two forms of gratitude—without the third—initially appear easier—however leave life unchanged. Transformative gratitude may seem impossible at first. Yet, granting such gratitude alters your experience by moving you to appreciation.
This is when you become bigger than the circumstances you face…and makes life easier (and more brilliant) later.
P.S. It’s impossible to be angry and in a state of gratitude at the same time.
