Vannoy & Ross

Voice from the intercom: Ladies and gentlemen, we have begun our descent into the conclusion of the year 2010.

(We’re one month away. The end is near. How would you like 2010 to conclude?)

Please make sure your seat belt is fastened low across your lap, all seat backs are in an upright position, and your tray tables are stowed and locked.

(The past year has seen its share of turbulence. And it’s “not over ’til it’s over.” Will you bring 2010 to a supurb landing? Will you finish strong – Versus an emergency landing with emergency crews standing by?)

All carry-on luggage must be stowed in the overhead bin or underneath the seat in front of you.

(Safety first – always first!) Consider that landing 2010 is as easy as answering this question: How will you live and lead out of your values even more in the weeks ahead?

Please turn off all of your electronics; this includes anything with an on-and-off switch.

(“Tis the Holiday Season. You choose. Which is more important: That Blackberry or a conversation with your family?)

The flight attendants will be around one last time to collect any trash or items you no longer wish to keep.

(What can you let go of in advance of the year’s ending? Who do you need to forgive? What burden are you ready to discard?)

We’ll be on the ground shortly.

(The past eleven months are as gone as the moment you woke up this morning. There’s no greater leadership moment than right now. 2010 can still be your (fill in the blank) year.

You’ll be arriving in 2011 shortly.

Consider that your landing in the weeks ahead will determine the success of your 2011 launch.
