“Titles and promotions are like painkillers,” the leader told me. You get the new business card, but it only deadens the pain. “Eventually, the numbing wears off. And the pain of your everyday reality returns.”
There are some who are addicted to such pain medication.
“It comes down to relationships – with yourself, peers and the company,” he said. “If any of those are off, the promotion won’t work.”
