There are two types of people when considering what life and business will look like after the pandemic:

  • Those who are eager to get back to normal.
  • And those who are looking forward to a new normal.

Normal, of course, is what the brain craves. It seeks the patterns that allow life to be more predictable. When we know what’s going to happen next, each day seems safer – and that requires a lot less work.

The question collaborative teams explore as it relates to how they operate: Will we go back or forward to normal?

The answer to that question is a choice; the key is making sure everyone on the team is pursuing the same normal. To assume everyone on the team has the same relationship with normal is to expose your team to an extended period of unproductive chaos.

The old saying remains true: The best way to predict the future is to create it.

P.S. Defining what success looks like now has never been more important. Check out Wednesday’s Connected Focus video cast for the big opportunity in front of most teams today. It may just be the shot in the arm your team is looking for.
