Saturday Night Live producer, Lorne Michaels, makes an important point about being prepared: “We don’t go on (the air) because we’re ready. We go on because it’s 11:30.”
It’s now or never.
Perfectionists and procrastinators want to stop the clock, delay, or push deadlines out. It’s rarely more time however, that makes something perfect. Its how we use the time we have that determines how perfect we are.
Something can always go wrong. When systems allow for us to use our instincts and intuition we are released to levels of excellence no amount of “check the box” preparation can accomplish. Trust yourself: You’ve spent a life time preparing for this moment.
What action are you ready to model?
It’s 11:30 p.m.
Get on with your greatness.
This reminded me of the book “Blink” by Malcolm Gladwell. He suggests to trust your instincts, our subconscious can process more information and faster than we are aware of.
Thanks for the great add, Ernesto! Here’s to all you do to trust your instincts and make great decisions without procrastinating. Blink is definitely worth the read!
Great post and very true. A few weeks ago I was told 3 days before a very major project go-live that some members of the team we not comfortable and we should not go-live. Months of work in multiple areas were coming to completion, hundreds of plane tickets were purchased to get people to training locations, hotel rooms reserved, trainers on there way to locations. My answer was much the same as this post…we committed to the date, the date is coming and we are going to go-live. Sometimes you can’t make this call if the risk is too high, but in most cases, and extra few days, and extra week, even an extra month is not going to get you much closer to the comfort level you mind desires. If you can, commit and go…
