Proverb: “The best time to plant a tree is 20 years ago. The second best time is now.”
The end of 2012 is near. Some bosses playing in the short-term are thinking “Let’s just get to the finish line.”
But you’re different. You look in the past and can see the future. And more than just prepare for 2013 – plans, strategies, mapping – you know that fundamentally it’s how we think and act that has to change…if we’re going to change the outcomes.
Try this: Ask your team, “In order to win in 2013, what is the one habit we’ll need?” (You can only pick one. What will it be?)
41 days. Those are not the shopping days that remain before Christmas. It’s the amount of time needed to create a new habit.
For fruit tomorrow, the tree (habit) of discipline is planted today.
We’ve created a space below for inspired leaders to connect. Share what your team’s new habit will be below.
Bang! Right on target. What strikes me is that bosses who focus on the finish line are “managers” and leaders focus on the condition of the team/athlete to be prepared for the future events/challenges. This post serves as an inspiration to start NOW. Why wait for January to make a resolution to lead? Thanks for fueling my engine.

Why wait! Good points, Rich. The best way to activate the potential inherent in tomorrow is to activate the potential today. Thanks for making it happen!

Thanks Steve for filling up my gas tank for 2013.
