For me what will forever resonate is something I read more than a decade ago, and many times since, moreover,”the success of a firm or organization moves in lockstep with its culture.”
We would be remiss not to recognize within every culture there are subcultures. Among them exist mindsets and behaviors not consistent with the primary and/or named culture of a firm. And because they are often cloaked in nepotism they are enabled to sustain an existence behind a veil of false constructs, never revealing the truth, that which is quintessential to eradicate mediocrity.
It is there amidst the haze and fine lines of dissension, nepotism, and tempered loyalty that truth may be conveniently severed from fact and its aftermath set into motion. It is no way forwardly focused, is always detrimentally distant from high roads, and forever complacent on the backside of the energy map.
Over time the once inspired and once unshakably loyal become the outlier and statistical anomaly, uninspired. The response from among primary culture is denial and/or closing of ranks, a fear filled response in a time when courage and leadership may be needed the most.
No one ever wants to hear their baby is ugly, metaphorically speaking, and rarely is their courage to ask the question why or how did happen?
I have come to realize through much introspection, if you ever want to discern and distinguish those who truly care about the wellness of a firms culture from those whom merely perpetrate a fraud, seek out those who have the courage to ask why and understand that those whom will not ask or tell are the selfsame whom say I want you or us to be successful without exploring what may have been the true cause of behavior change.
Culture runs deep and if you are not familiar with the affect of the tiller (culture) that steers your ship, you may find yourself in deep water too distant from the shore to change course. The stakes are high.
Culture is, if it is truly committed to wellness, honest.
