They did you wrong.

  • Your leaders aren’t acting like leaders.
  • Teammates aren’t being responsible.

There are a lot of reasons not to give your best, especially when you consider the actions of others. And if they’re not going to be held accountable, why should you do what’s right?

Because if you don’t, you give others a reason to disregard you.

Because if you don’t, you disqualify yourself: You’re complicit in creating the same culture you’re criticizing.

Because if you don’t, you’ll have to live with the knowledge that your values are negotiable.

Responding with integrity, when others are not, is a signal that you’re capable.

Responding virtuously, when there’s no certain reward for doing so, is a proclamation of leadership.

There are more reasons than not to give your best.
