As humans, we’re prone to try anyway.

Through our

  • beliefs
  • attitudes
  • limited perspectives
  • experiences

we rationalize, give excuses, or point blame to avoid the truth.

Victims of reality start with the mantra, “facts are facts,” then plod forward as if there is only one course, one way to interpret the data in front of us.

We are not destined, however, to experience life as a hardship or work as a grind.

Those who lead and mobilize the hearts and minds of others have a different relationship with reality:

  • They choose to believe what is useful vs what is destructive.
  • They seek insights from data that give us reasons to step forward.
  • They interpret rules as levers, not constraints.
  • They retain their power by remembering that the current reality is neither good nor bad. It simply is.

Facts are indeed facts; what you choose to do with them remains your choice.

Effective collaborative leaders know that the reality from which we live tomorrow will be determined by what we choose to do with the reality of today.

You win an argument with reality by changing it.
