But fake what?

A leader who is making a career decision told me: “When you’re younger there are a lot of ladders available for you to climb. You can choose from many roles, depending on where you want to go and what type of job you’d like to have.

“As you get older, however, there are fewer ladders – and more people lined up waiting to climb those ladders. What fascinates me is that so many people are not being true to themselves. They’re just acting, trying to get up one of the ladders faster than others.

“I know you’re supposed to fake it until you make it. But for what? Is the goal to get to the top of the ladder and not be true to you?”

That’s a good question. What is the goal?

(What is the ladder in front of you meant to do?)
