Feedback on last week’s blog had a common theme: Professionals seek specifics on how to run meetings that drive fast, better decision making. Therefore, this week we offer a simple guide which you can use to build your meeting agendas.

First, an important reminder: Our research shows there are three organizational disciplines that most effectively increase the speed with which strategies and plans are executed.

  • Empowered decision making at the edges of the enterprise,
    accomplished by
  • Employees who are energized around a shared reality,
    operating in
  • Deep alignment with one another.

Disciplines are Practiced

The disciplines of speed are dynamic and best developed in everyday interactions. This means the meetings you’re leading are ideal for increasing the flow of value your teams are generating.

Here is a 5-point guide to use as you draft your next meeting agenda:

A) Since we last met, what are three ways we’ve made progress in delivering our plans?

B) To increase our steady speed of execution, what’s important now:

  • Which short- or long-term shared objectives must we clarify?
  • What data do we need to discuss to co-create meaningful insights and new knowledge?
  • Where or how do we need the support of others?
  • What must we do to synchronize our efforts more effectively?
  • What do you need more of, better, or in addition from one another – and why?

C) What challenges haven’t we discussed (or what decisions did we delay) that will be a distraction or barrier to execution going forward?

D) Who will summarize and document the decisions we’ve made?

E) What expectations do we have of one another between now and our next meeting?

Bonus: Why is it important that we successfully execute the decisions we’ve made today?

Your business moves at a speed determined by the strength of three distinct disciplines. Your next meeting is your opportunity to put these disciplines into practice.
